Our commitment

Integrity, ethics and compliance

Compliance, ethics and integrity are essential to sustainable corporate success. Our Compliance Management System monitors whether we meet our corresponding targets, and the provision of regular employee training ensures that our values are put into practice in our day-to-day work.

OUR GOALS

  • Sustainable management by acting with integrity
At MAN, compliance is a task for all companies and all management levels.
  • Ensuring that the value creation chain is fair
MAN takes ethical conduct extremely seriously, both in-house and at its suppliers.
  • Protecting human rights worldwide
We do not tolerate any discrimination or violation of human rights – including in our supply chain.

COMPLIANCE: FIRMLY ANCHORED IN THE COMPANY

MAN aims to create a corporate culture in which only ethical conduct and integrity are accepted. Through our effective compliance management system, we ensure compliance with all corporate, product-specific and ecological regulations at national and international level. The Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) area is responsible for this. It is managed by the Head of GRC/Chief Compliance Officer, who reports directly to the Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN as well as to the Head of GRC/Chief Compliance Officer of the TRATON GROUP. Dr. Bernhard Lippsmeier is supported by compliance officers, data protection managers and officers or risk/IKS managers in the different business units and sales regions.

Our principles of ethical conduct as well as all fundamental compliance requirements have been codified in the MAN Code of Conduct. This also describes our corporate values and specifies guidelines on the subject of “Integrity”.

More about compliance at MAN

The entire value creation chain at a glance

As an international commercial vehicle manufacturer, MAN wants to contribute towards shaping fair and climate-neutral supply chains that are compatible with the circular economy. We therefore undertake to handle resources carefully and to ensure that we and our suppliers and business partners comply with employee and human rights. As part of the Volkswagen Group, MAN is therefore represented in the “Sustainability Procurement Network”, where we discuss current developments and long-term challenges in our supplier relationships internationally.

It is our aim to persuade our suppliers of the importance of sustainability and encourage them to also optimise their own supply chains

Minimising risks along the supply chain

To meet the requirements of the new German Supply Chain Act (LkSG), MAN has introduced the “Responsible Supply Chain System” (ReSC system). The aim is – building on a systematic risk analysis of human rights – to prevent or minimise social or ecological risks and corruption along the supply chain. ReSC should also help to put an end to violations and continuously improve the sustainability performance of our suppliers.

How MAN evaluates its suppliers

To minimise risks in our supply chain, we have introduced the “Sustainability Rating” (S rating) for all relevant companies and suppliers with a high sustainability risk. This evaluates the ecological performance of suppliers as well as their sustainability and integrity. If a supplier fails to meet our requirements for compliance with sustainability standards, it cannot generally receive any orders from us.

Responsible acquisition of raw materials

In the year 2020, MAN implemented a “Raw Material Due Diligence Management System”, which is based on the requirements of the OECD “Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct” and “Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas”. We also support the “Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance” (IRMA), the “Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber” and the industry initiative “The Copper Mark”. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Volkswagen Group is working with partners to ensure improved working and living conditions for the people involved in the small-scale mining of cobalt and in the surrounding communities near mines. For lithium, the raw material used in batteries, the Volkswagen Group, together with other partners, launched the “Responsible Lithium Partnership” initiative, which works towards ensuring responsible handling of natural resources and sustainable acquisition of lithium in Salar de Atacama in Chile.

More about checking suppliers

Zero tolerance of human rights violations

We are particularly committed to protecting any groups that could be exposed to human rights violations along our supply chain. That’s why, in reporting year 2022, the Volkswagen Group implemented a “Human Rights Focus System” (HRFS). The aim is to identify and address particularly high risks of human rights violations in our supply chain.

MAN’s Executive Board, together with the general works council, has published a policy statement on human rights. In this, MAN rejects any form of discrimination, harassment and unwarranted unfairness. Every single employee brings a unique perspective that enables the company to be successful in the long term. For this reason, MAN champions diversity and inclusion. We also perform an “integrity check” for each new contract with a business partner, checking whether or not they can be linked to any human rights violations.
