We are convinced that the success of our company depends on responsible and sustainable actions. We are at the beginning of a decade that will be crucial in determining whether we as a global community will be able to get a grip on global challenges like climate change.
For us, sustainability is a key element in remaining successful in global competition. We take a holistic view of the subject and base our entire sustainability strategy on the three dimensions of “Environment”, “Social” and “Governance” (ESG). In each of these areas, we focus on the key action areas, which are important not only for us, but also for our stakeholders.
This comprehensive approach is also reflected in our membership of the UN “Global Compact” initiative, which endeavours to achieve fairer globalisation across industry and country borders. Together, we are working on making this vision a reality through suitable strategies and activities.
EcoVadis has already assessed 125,000 companies for its sustainability ratings – including MAN. In May 2024, the company once again received a gold medal for its sustainability commitments and services. MAN obtained a score of 73 in the overall assessment and is therefore among the top five per cent of all companies assessed in the last year. Of the four main topics, Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, “Environment” was awarded the highest sustainability rating (80 points). MAN achieved its biggest improvement in the field of “Ethics”, where the score increased from 60 (2022) to 70 points.
Most of our greenhouse gas emissions are generated during the usage phase of our products. That’s why MAN is expanding its fleet of battery-driven electric vehicles and is committed to the rapid expansion of the required charging infrastructure. But we are also committed to achieving net zero emissions in our production processes.
Our values are at the centre of our actions. This includes team spirit, respect and responsibility. We promote diversity and equal opportunities in all corporate areas, because we want to continue to attract talented and competent employees in the future and offer them development opportunities. MAN is also committed to social concerns in society.
Compliance, ethics and integrity are essential to sustainable corporate success. Our Compliance Management System monitors whether we meet our corresponding targets, and the provision of regular employee training ensures that our values are put into practice in our day-to-day work.
MAN wants to make a measurable contribution towards sustainability. That’s why we are pursuing clear climate goals: in 2021, MAN joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in order to accept responsibility and make a contribution towards compliance with the Paris Agreement. By joining this initiative, we have set ourselves binding and science-based targets to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions – both in the short term by 2030 and in the long term in line with the efforts to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality in balance sheet terms (net zero).
