Everything you need to know about the iSea E-Box for engine monitoring
The heart of iSea is the E-box. For this reason, each engine is also assigned its own E-box for engine monitoring – all engine data is registered in this box and compared with permanently stored setpoint values. Classified applications also have a built-in security system, operating independently of the alarm system.
In the event of deviations outside the permissible tolerance limits, appropriate measures are triggered by the alarm system: Warnings, alarms or alarms with simultaneous power and speed reduction of the engine in order to avoid consequential damage as far as possible. The optional safety system additionally monitors the engine separately and triggers an immediate engine stop in case of an alarm. Due to the redundant security system design, minimum monitoring of the engine is still provided in case of a defect in the alarm system.
Flexible, connective and intuitive
Displays the operating values of engine, gearbox and exhaust gas aftertreatment (if fitted) – in case of deviations, the system triggers corresponding measures.
Displays the operating parameters of the engine, which are supplied via the safety system sensors that are independent of the alarm system.
Regulates, controls and monitors the engine operating parameters or the driveline and reports errors – in addition, it supports the marine-specific components required for visualisation and operation.
Includes all redundant sensors required by classification societies in addition to the alarm system. These include stop alarms, independent speed detection and redundant displays for the local operatorʼs platform.
The carrier board for the control boards distributes all internal/external signals from and to the control units in the system.
Operates as a central connection of external connection lines and establishes signal connections with the above-mentioned components.
Communicates with the associated control lever via the CAN bus line system, which in turn enables serial data exchange between control units.

Important facts about the iSea bridge display
The iSea touch colour display is designed to visualise the operating values of engine, gearbox and exhaust gas aftertreatment (if fitted) of an MAN marine diesel engine. As soon as a value reaches a critical level, a warning message or an alarm – depending on the importance – is triggered and shown on the display. If the value moves outside certain plausible limits, a sensor error is displayed. An integrated buzzer emits a warning tone with every new alarm message, which can be stopped by pressing a button.
With the IPS (In-Plane Switching) display, MAN Engines uses the same technology as leading smartphone manufacturers. The IPS display offers the widest possible viewing angles so that important information can also be captured at a distance from the operator’s platform.
For optimal adaptation to the user’s requirements, several languages can be displayed: English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Chinese (simplified), Russian. Via an integrated sensor, the bridge display detects the brightness of the environment and automatically adjusts the backlight of the display to the conditions. The iSea bridge display was awarded the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021.

Important facts about the iSea comfort throttle lever
The iSea comfort throttle lever controls speed and gearbox of single-engine or twin-engine systems on ships – even on different operator’s platforms. For twin-engine systems, six LEDs on the control panel display the following statuses for port and starboard: command, warm up, synchro, trolling, slip & grip, alarm. In addition, warnings and alarms can be issued via acoustic signals. Due to the tried and tested use also on open bridges, protection class IP 66 is mandatory.
