Your successful switch to alternative drives

We manage your future-proof mobility

Our MAN team of experts fully supports you and clarifies all relevant issues with you down to the last detail.

Range planning for your MAN electric vehicles

For trucks and vans

Naturally, transition to electric drives is only expedient if the range and transport capacity is sufficient. Especially when used in inner cities, many vehicles do not travel more than 80 to 120 kilometres. If the average distance travelled per day is within this range, e-mobility is a real option. However, you will also need to take other factors into account to make reliable statements on possible applications and economy.

For buses

Hybrid, gas or all-electric? The drive concepts that best optimise your bus fleet can only be clarified using highly detailed analyses of the specific application. The range required for each bus line is a decisive factor when compiling an ideally suited fleet mix, especially if all-electric vehicles are included.

The MAN Lion’s City E can already travel for up to 270 km without needing to be charged. However, you will also need to take other factors into account for reliable statements on possible applications and efficiency.

For example, electric buses are the most economical, with average speeds of between 14 and 18 km/h. Factors such as the number of starting and braking operations, the number of passengers or the topography of your lines also affect the range. The heating can significantly reduce the daily possible travel distance of the electric bus, especially in sub-zero temperatures.

The right charging technology for your MAN electric vehicles

For trucks and buses

Equipped with the right charging technology, your business premises will be the optimal base for your electric vehicles: Charging the batteries after the end of the shift ensures you have full range again the next day. Your vehicle could manage additional routes on the same day if you e.g. use a quick-charging station during the lunch break. The CCS Combined Charging System with up to 150 kW charging current allows complete charging of the battery within a maximum of four hours.

For vans

Charging via CCS plug is also possible with the eTGE – but the van offers even more charging options:

AC Wallbox

  • Compact charging unit with 7.2 kW connected load.
  • It takes just 5 hours and 20 minutes to reach 100 % charge.

DC charging station

  • Combo socket outlet CCS with 40 kW connected load
  • Fast DC charging to 80% charge state in only 45 minutes

230 V socket

  • Allows the battery to be recharged almost anywhere
  • Complete charging of the vehicle battery, ideally overnight

MAN Transport Solution Energy Supply

Whether you can achieve savings by switching to e-mobility as opposed to a conventionally-powered vehicle largely depends on the design of the energy supply. We test all possible means of cost optimisation for you. These include, for example, how you can exploit low-cost electricity purchasing times and avoid load peaks with staggered charging. Or how you can optimise power procurement costs by using and storing self-generated energy e.g. for charging the vehicle batteries.

The vehicle battery is another key component of e-mobility. Its condition and its performance are decisive with respect to cost-efficient operation of electrified fleets.

It cannot be avoided that batteries lose capacity and performance with increasing age. However, factors such as usage behaviour, maintenance and charging frequency have a considerable influence on how quickly and to what degree the battery output is reduced. Optimised battery management is therefore an integral part of our concepts for your transition to e-mobility.

MAN Transport Solution Service & Maintenance

For your organisation, the transition to e-mobility is more than just the replacement of one or more of your vehicles. It represents your introduction to the mobility of the future – with all the associated benefits. But “electric” also brings a series of changes into your organisation: from journey planning and daily charging right up to driving style and workshop equipment. Hence it is important that your employees and your service workshop are well prepared for it.

We work with the MAN Academy to train your employees, allowing them to optimally deploy your electric vehicles. We inform you of possible risks and how to handle the electric vehicles properly in the event of an accident or a defect. And we also serve as expert partner for your service workshops to handle all questions related to working on electric vehicles.

Central influence factors

For trucks

The MAN eTGM supplies superstructures such as roll-off tippers, refrigeration containers or waste compactors with electric energy directly from the vehicle batteries. Hence operation of auxiliary consumers unavoidably leads to a reduction in the range of your electric vehicle. How strong this effect is depends on the type of superstructure and also on the intensity of its use. Hence we perform a detailed analysis of the power consumption of the auxiliary consumers for use of the vehicles in your organisation. The knowledge gained flows directly into the range calculation and journey optimisation.

For vans

Vehicle lighting, multimedia systems, USB ports and assistance systems also require battery power. In the MAN eTGE, all auxiliary consumers are therefore designed for maximum energy efficiency. This means they only have a noticeable influence on the scope if they continue working to their full extent during prolonged stops. The eTGE offers you a savings mode that reduces the auxiliary consumer’s energy use.

For buses

Auxiliary consumers such as vehicle lighting, on-board computers, passenger information systems and ticket machines require power from the battery. How they influence the range depends on the vehicle configuration and must be considered on a case-by-case basis

Above all, MAN electric vehicles can fully demonstrate their strengths in an urban environment: The actual average speeds in typical city traffic range around 16-20 km/h. And speed limits on most journeys are 50-60 km/h. In these speed ranges, electric drive concepts work in a particularly energy-efficient manner. Furthermore, unlike travelling with an internal combustion engine, stop & go traffic is no longer a burden on your energy balance. On the contrary: Using recuperation, MAN electric vehicles deliver electrical energy back to the battery each time the brakes are applied.

Anticipatory driving saves energy. This applies to any vehicle. But with an electric drive, a well-trained driver can make considerable additional gains in range. Gentle acceleration and targeted use of recuperation considerably reduce energy consumption.

The weight of the load and the topographic profile of the route have a relatively small influence on the range of your MAN electric vehicle. Operation of the heating and high speeds have a much greater influence. Nevertheless, a detailed analysis of your route network is important. They provide important information for optimisation of routes and vehicle rotations.

For trucks and vans

An electric drive produces significantly less waste heat compared with a combustion engine. For this reason, MAN eTGM and MAN eTGE use a highly efficient, purely electric heating and air conditioning system. The heater’s power consumption may still considerably reduce the range of your electric vehicle, especially at lower minus temperatures. We can show you how to use the right strategy to reliably manage your daily routes, e.g. using targeted pre-tempering of your electric van while it is being charged.

For buses

Heating and air conditioning are crucial factors in the operation of an electric bus. Particularly in heating mode, at very cold temperatures, restrictions in range are to be expected with purely electric heating mode. In order to use the MAN Lion’s City E as efficiently as possible, we analyse the climatic boundary conditions in detail and show possible options, such as the use of an auxiliary heater under certain boundary conditions.
