At a glance
-
Increased safety
MAN SafeStop Assist 1) independently determines if the driver is still actively driving, and can brake the vehicle to a standstill if this is not the case.
-
Interaction of different systems
MAN SafeStop Assist 1) uses MAN ACC Stop and Go Adaptive Cruise Control 1), along with other systems, to automatically brake the vehicle in a controlled manner.
-
Faster first aid provision
The system allows for improved first aid for the driver, if required, by unlocking the doors and switching on the interior lighting.
Automatic braking for improved safety in traffic
MAN SafeStop Assist 1) provides reassurance for logistics companies and their fleet management in the event of a potentially dangerous scenario, i.e. if the driver falls unconscious or can no longer control the truck for other reasons and the truck becomes a driverless vehicle. Should this happen, the truck’s driver assistance systems independently bring the truck to a controlled and safe standstill, thus preventing any possible accidents, such as a collision with stationary traffic.
Operational sequence in five stages:
Hazard recognition and initial notification
If the steering angle sensor detects that steering movements are no longer being made, the steering wheel begins to vibrate shortly afterwards, and a message is displayed on the instrumentation.
Multisensory warning for the driver
A warning symbol is displayed on the instrumentation, followed by further steering wheel vibrations, and a warning tone sounds.
Physical warning and preparation for emergency stop
Two braking jolts are made to physically alert the driver that an emergency stop is about to be performed.
Initiation of the emergency stop
In the instrumentation, the message “Lane guidance, emergency stop being performed”, appears and the emergency stop is initiated.
Safeguarding and facilitating recovery measures
If the vehicle has come to a standstill, the vehicle independently engages the ‘N’ gear, applies the electronic parking brake, activates the interior lighting and unlocks the doors. The driver can interrupt the emergency stop at any time by performing a kickdown, if they are able to do so.
