Whether in the delivery zone, when turning or in busy inner-city traffic: Cyclists or pedestrians may be located in the area directly in front of or next to the vehicle, which is either hard or impossible to see. This is why the blind spot and drive-off warning detect weaker road users in the vicinity of the MAN van and warn the driver visually and acoustically in critical situations. The blind spot warning monitors the co-driver’s side of the vehicle. The system can help to minimise the risk of collisions with cyclists, particularly when turning. At the same time, the drive-off warning monitors the area directly in front of the van and helps to prevent accidents with cyclists or pedestrians when driving off or travelling at slow speeds.
The assistance system supports the driver in recognising cyclists and pedestrians in the area commonly called blind spot at speeds of up to 30 km/h. If its radar sensors detect a vulnerable road user in the hazard zone, it warns the driver in three stages – visually in the side mirror and acoustically.
Visual warning via a light in the side mirror: Cyclists and/or pedestrians are located in the danger zone.
Visual warning via a flashing light in the side mirror: Collision expected.
Optical and acoustic acute warning: Collision expected – immediate reaction of the driver is required.
The system helps the driver to recognise weaker road users in the area in front of the vehicle at speeds of up to 10 km/h. If it detects cyclists and pedestrians in the danger zone, a two-stage warning is issued – visually in the instrumentation and acoustically.
Message: Cyclists and/or pedestrians are located in the hazard zone.
